KEVIN WINCHCOMBE DEPARTS DUE TO WORK COMMITTMENTS...JOE FULLER HAS FIVE STITCHES IN NASTY LEG INJURY...GARY WARD STARTS 3 MATCH BAN
Versatile defender/midfielder Kevin Winchcombe has been forced to leave the club following a change in his work situation. Kevin was unable to commit fully to training and games due to the additional travelling following a job change. Kevin played a dozen games for the Chats this year in midfield and at full back, a position which earned him a place in the Ryman League ‘side of the year’ last season for his previous club VCD. Manager Paul Foley stated
‘Kevin is a very important member of the squad as he gives you the same levels of performance wherever he plays so it is a blow to lose him at this stage of the season. He is an honest lad though and he knew if he could not commit to the club fully he would not be doing himself justice and he did not want to let anyone down. I have asked him to review again in a few weeks but for the time being he will be unavailable for selection. His job takes him to the other side of London and he is a new father too so he just could not meet all of the different demands being placed on him. He is the type of player that has to be fully committed so I completely understand his decision. We may see him again before the season is out.’
Joe Fuller sustained a very nasty injury only minutes after coming on against Ramsgate on Monday following a late and dangerous lunge from a Rams player. Joe managed to limp through the last 10 minutes but ended up in hospital on Monday night following some patch repairs from Phil Jeffs in the dressing room and he received five stitches in what can only be described as a stud-shaped ‘hole’ in his lower leg, a tackle which was very late and only received a yellow card from the referee Andy Mead. Joe will be unavailable for two weeks until he has the stitches out and the wound heals completely. Vice captain Gary Ward starts the first of his three game suspension on Saturday following a red card handed out in the Kent Senior Cup game, a tackle which appeared far less dangerous than the one sustained by Joe it has to be said!
Some good news though is that flying winger Nick Hegley returns from the Maldives on Thursday night in time for the Merstham game. |
